NASTAD Applauds Appointment of Dr. Robyn Neblett Fanfair to Director of the Division of HIV Prevention (DHP)

NASTAD applauds the appointment of Dr. Robyn Neblett Fanfair, MD, MPH (CAPT, USPHS) to serve as permanent Director of the Division of HIV Prevention (DHP) within the National Center for HIV, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP). As DHP Director, she will play an instrumental role in carrying out the Biden Administration’s plan to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Dr. Neblett Fanfair has served as Acting Director of DHP since August 2022, and NASTAD has genuinely appreciated her dedication to DHP and leadership in this role.

NASTAD is honored to have worked closely with Dr. Neblett Fanfair and we look forward to her continuing to use her decades of experience and expertise to strengthen HIV/AIDS resources, services, and programming. In May 2023, Dr. Neblett Fanfair presented at NASTAD’s Annual Meeting and provided NASTAD and its membership with an update on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s plan to center key populations in its HIV/AIDS research and programming. We appreciated her emphasis on centering key populations and leveraging community and partner engagement to end the epidemics, as it tied into NASTAD’s 2023 Chair’s Challenge, “Access, Engage, and Activate: Centering and Recentering Key Populations”.

Prior to joining DHP, Dr. Neblett Fanfair worked as a researcher, clinician, and public health practitioner. She also serves as a CAPT in the USPHS and is prepared to support any public health emergencies or natural disasters. Throughout her career, she has worked to guarantee high-quality care, treatment, and prevention for all people living with and impacted by HIV/AIDS. We are delighted to have such a dedicated member of the community continue to lead this important division and bolster our nation’s commitment to ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

Dr. Neblett Fanfair’s leadership and expertise have already accomplished great things, and we are excited to continue working with her to ensure a future free of HIV/AIDS. We look forward to continuing to partner with her and DHP on their priorities as a leader in the public health response to HIV/AIDS and viral hepatitis.
